Know what lies below Dec. 8, 2010 Know what lies below State pipeline maps available online OLYMPIA, Wash. – Hazardous liquid and natural gas pipeline maps are now available for the public to view on the Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission (UTC) website. The new Geographic Information System Map Viewer allows the public to see the location, ownership and general information about pipelines in their neighborhood. The maps are viewed by county and display both hazardous-liquid and high-pressure natural gas pipelines. The maps do not include gathering or distribution pipelines, such as lines that deliver gas to customers’ homes. In the past, these maps were only available upon request in hard copy form. The maps can be found on the UTC website at: Pipeline Safety GIS Map Viewer Established by the Legislature in 1955, the UTC’s Pipeline Safety Program regulates the safety practices of 28 pipeline companies and conducts safety inspections on more than 24,000 miles of natural gas and hazardous-liquid pipelines in Washington. ###
