OLYMPIA, Wash. – Citing deceptive business practices, state regulators today cancelled the operating permit for Kent-based residential moving company All My Sons. The company is no longer authorized to move residential customers’ property within the state of Washington.
The Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission (UTC) investigation and audit revealed that the moving company had repeatedly overcharged customers, inaccurately estimated the costs of customers’ moves and mishandled customers’ damage claims.
The UTC does not regulate commercial and interstate moving services. The company will continue to have the authority to handle commercial and interstate moves.
All My Sons has been operating 10 years. Three years ago, the UTC penalized the company for violating many of the same consumer-protection regulations. The company admitted the violations and paid a $40,590 penalty.
All My Sons has the highest number of consumer complaints of all residential moving companies in Washington. The UTC has received 42 consumer complaints against the company since 2002.
The UTC regulates rates, safety and consumer protection standards of the more than 200 household goods moving companies operating within Washington state.
